How To Get Rid of Old Furniture

Getting rid of old furniture is something we do everyday. Have you ever thought of how you will get rid of unwanted furniture? There are a few different methods for getting rid of couches, chairs, tables or other furniture without a big hassle.

Sell it-

Selling your furniture is one way to get rid of old furniture that is still in good shape. Craigslist, garage sales, and other online marketplaces are ideal for selling used furniture. If your piece is still in good shape you may be able to sell it to a consignment shop. Furniture with more wear and tear may be harder to sell. You may even want to list your item for free to get it picked up without much effort on your part.

Junk removal-

If you have a lot of furniture to get rid of you may want to hire a junk removal company. A junk removal company will do all the heavy lifting and dispose of your old furniture for you. This option is great when buying a new place that had left furniture or for cleaning out a relative’s home after they move to a nursing home.

Furniture can also be donated to thrift stores, homeless shelters and even pet shelters. These places are happy to take used furniture off your hands that still has life in it.

Antique Shop-

Depending on the type of furniture you have you may be able to sell it to an antique shop. Antique shops are always looking for great furniture pieces and are willing to look at photos and see if your piece may qualify. A vintage card table, heirloom hutch or passed down dining table may fetch a pretty penny from the dealer.

Finally you may want to consider passing down your furniture. Call your kids or grandkids and see if they are interested in the furniture and would want to take if off your hands. Furnishing a home can be pricey and they may jump at some free furniture to fill their homes.

No matter what you do getting rid of furniture doesn’t have to mean driving it to the dump yourself. While you may be done with a furniture item someone else may see it as a new treasure and can help keep it from a one way trip to the landfill.
